Video Wall meets Animated Background: put your Video Wall on steroids and make it even bigger! You can now include video in the gutters as well: that’s four synchronized videos creating one, wide animation… Then click on any of them to play the video at full size.
Example
Requirements
General requirements:
- Uninitiated Floating layers are not allowed in conjunction with a Super Video Wall
- Background colour changes are not allowed in conjunction with a Super Video Wall
- 300×250 and 400×60 elements must be able to function without the gutters in case of the user turning off the background
Requirements for the 300×250 and 400×60 are the same as for the standard Video Wall.
- For the gutter units, the following applies:
- Do not use logos, buttons or literal messages (especially core product messages as some users may not be able to see the background due to small screen resolutions)
- All animation must stop after 30 seconds
- Animation and video content must play in the gutter areas and must never overlap page content
- While the animation areas (gutters) can be clickable, the rest of the background cannot be clickable
- The user can turn off the animation/video in the gutters
Notes
- A standard close button symbol will be added in the upper inside corner of each of the animated gutters
- There is always a 10px buffer area on each side of the page between each gutter and the page itself
- Your Screening Room should be wide enough to cover the two gutter videos (see above)
- Please be aware that there is also a compact version of the Yahoo! Front Page where the page is narrower at 782px wide (to see this page click on “Page options” on the top right and select “Switch to compact view”)
When viewing the Screening Room on the narrow page, the “close” button is moved towards the centre to ensure it is visible.
Deliverables
For best user experience and maximum visibility we recommend an animation area of 120×600 px on each side of the page content. The dimensions of the two gutters are negotiable so please get in touch if you want different dimensions.
- 300×250 inline: FLA, SWF (40KB), Flash 9 AS2, or below, 25fps or below, 40KB JPG or GIF
- 400×60 inline: FLA, SWF (30KB), Flash 9 AS2, or below, 25fps or below, 30KB JPG or GIF
- Left and right gutters, 120×600 recommended: FLA, SWF (40KB), Flash 10 AS3 or below, 25fps or below
- Initial video: uncompressed (MOV), 1280×720 recommended (min width 1232px, max width 1312px allowing for gutters width 120-160px respectively; e.g. 1280px wide video allows for gutters max 144px wide), 30 seconds max; we’ll use this to generate the four in-line videos
- Expanded video / Screening Room: FLA, SWF, Flash 9, AS2 or below, 25fps or below; video: as above (uncompressed), Standard Definition (FLV, 5MB or below) or High Definition (FLV, MOV or MP4 with h.264 encoding, 20MB or below); controls: must include, at a minimum, pause and play buttons (or combined toggle pause/play), sound button
- Please also include fonts that we may need for publishing the FLAs
- The combined weight of all uninitiated SWFs (300×250, 400×60 + both gutter SWFs) must not exceed 150k
CPU Usage
A Super Video Wall adds two Flash units with video to the page, bringing the total to four. This can place strain on the user’s CPU as video and Flash animation can be processor intensive, especially since multiple animations run simultaneously.
For your event, an initial spike of up to 60% is acceptable in the first five seconds. Thereafter, please make sure CPU usage is kept under 40%.
Supported Browsers
PC: Internet Explorer 6+, FireFox 3+, Chrome
Mac: FireFox 3+, Chrome, Safari
Other browsers or any browser without sufficient Flash and JavaScript support will not show the Super Video Wall.
