The login page is the doorway to Aol. It is the entry point into our users’ email and other communication tools online. Therefore, it is important that any advertising shown on the login page does not affect a user’s feeling of security, trust and accessibility to Aol’s products.
Deliverable
Background image
- 1440×1024 px, 100KB max JPG or GIF
- This image will serve as the backdrop of the Aol Login page and should be optimised for 1024×768 screen resolution to ensure the majority of users will see your message
- On the same image, all call-to-action and relevant texts must stay within a predetermined 450×450 area outlined in the diagram above
- The clickable area can be as big as the entire background image
- Please also provide a colour hex code for the wider background. The image should blend into this colour gracefully
Requirements
In addition, your takeover must adhere to the requirements below. All Login takeovers are also subject to additional Editorial approval and Yahoo! reserve the right to reject any creative that it deems inappropriate.
- Login page takeovers shall emphasise branding so prominent branding is required. All logos/branding must be at least 50 pixels away from the top Aol logo and also the login module on the right (see above diagram)
- There must be clear messaging within the predetermined 450×450 area (see above diagram). Call-to-action will be made clickable by Yahoo!
- The Aol header and footer must display on the page and may not be overtaken by the advertisement at any time
- The Aol login interface may not be moved or impacted by the advertisement at any time (ie, no overlays, floating, etc)
- Interactivity and animation must be user-click-initiated. Roll-over initiation may be accepted on a case-by-case basis
- The use of login fields or any text entry fields is strictly forbidden. Initial cursor focus must remain in the Aol login fields; the ad must not steal focus from the Aol login fields without user interaction
- Ads must directly relate to the content on the landing page. Ads must clearly represent the company, product or brand that is being advertised. Products or services promoted in the ad must be directly available on the landing page
- The peripheral background must be consistent and fluid so it always fills the entire user screen during browser resize
- Creative must not resemble or alter Aol Login page content (eg, buttons)
- Creative cannot hide, impair or confuse user orientation with the Aol login box
- Excessive repetition of words or punctuations is not allowed (eg, “Buy Buy Buy” or “Buy now!!!”); correct spelling and spacing must be used
- Creative must not ask users to ’sign up’ or subscribe to a product/service
- Creative must not fake functionality
- Images, logos and fonts must be of high resolution / good quality. Loud and clashing colours, poor resolution images and fonts, intrusive and annoying design elements (eg, pulsating, flashing or blinking animation) are not allowed
- For a single 24-hour period, only one set of creative can be used and takeover must not rotate between different assets
- The landing page must not require the user to log in (eg, Facebook login page), unless the takeover contains a clear disclaimer informing the user
- Third party 1×1 impression pixels, market research pixels and research study survey invitations are not allowed
Polite Downloading
Extra uninitiated Flash assets can also be loaded into the 450×450 unit on page load. The extra assets must be 100KB or less and may only start animating on user initiation.
Deliverables
- Background image
- 450×450 FLA, SWF (under 50KB)
- Additional Flash asset FLA and SWF (under 100KB)
- Please also include fonts that we may need for publishing the FLAs.
Notes
- Users meeting the following conditions will not see a Login page takeover:
- Low bandwidth users. Bandwidth detection will be used to determine whether to serve the ad experience to the user. A fallback Aol branded experience will be served to low bandwidth users
- New user state (a user who is determined likely to register instead of Sign In)
- Error conditions
- Broadband/Aol Partner branded login pages
- Any page with Captcha display
- If a user has requested in-line help
- Pop-up versions of the login interface
- Small Business login
- Yahoo! must serve all assets required by a takeover over the https protocol. No third party serving is allowed
