Detailed Wallpaper Specifications
- One single static image is used for the wallpaper. This image should be 1280px wide to accommodate nearly every screen size in common use. This does not mean that all browsers will show all of the wallpaper content, as some users have smaller screens and browsers – the content you want to display to the highest amount of users should be contained within the area visible at 1024×768 marked in the diagram below
- Total file size: 100KB
- Page content width =970px
- The space between the gutters should be 970px
- Right and Left Gutter Width = Recommended 137px because as mentioned above this ensures that the highest amount of users will see the whole of the gutter area. Wider gutters are allowed as long as the above has been taken into account and that weight limits are also taken into account
- You should fade the edges of the gutters to a solid colour. Please provide us with the exact hex colour so that it can be applied to the rest of the page background. This will improve the look of the creative to users with wider screens by avoiding hard edges
- The centre of the wallpaper image will appear behind the page content and therefore it will not be shown. This means that you can leave it blank, which will considerably help keeping the weight of the creative low
- The wallpaper will be aligned by the browser to the centre of the page therefore it is subject to pixel rounding issues. The consequence of this is that a thin line might appear between the page content and the gutter, because a small portion of the blank area at the centre of the wallpaper is shown. In order to avoid this we suggest building the gutter with an additional 3 to 5 pixels in width, with the additional pixels moved towards the centre – i.e. the space between the gutters will be reduced by 3 to 5 pixels each side
- The gutters do not scroll with the page; they will remain fixed and will always be in the users’ view area. Because of this it is important to put the main features of the wallpaper at a height that can be seen by most users’ screens
- Vertical tiling is allowed
- In some cases a single tiling image can be used
- Background colour must be thematically consistent with takeover content
- No text allowed. With the exception of logos and necessary legal text, all text, slogans and calls to action must live in the banner 300×250 and masthead units.

- ExSpondo (Expandable Sponsorship Strip) is an add-on available for a wallpaper takeover. Upon user click, the Sponsorship Strip of the takeover can expand to 300px in height and push the page content down to further engage the user with even more rich media content such as videos, games, forms and much more.

- Up to 3 30 second videos allowed. Videos should weigh up to a maximum of 2.2meg. Yahoo! can provide the video player which will contain a replay button, play/pause buttons and sound on/off buttons. Anything over and above the above number or weight of the videos has to be discussed on a case by case basis. Please contact your account manager.
- Sound after the click initiation of the exspondo can start straightaway with the video. The video player should include a sound on/off button, a video play/pause button and a replay button. These buttons can be provided by Yahoo!
- Up to two flash animations can be included in the exSpondo area and will be loaded on click. Such flash animation should not weigh more than 40kb each and might include for example an area with links to downloadable files, a game, etc
- Upon click initiation of areas of the exSpondo, either on its expanded or unexpanded state, an additional wallpaper can be launched that will replace the first one: please note that in this case all of the takeover has to be built and served using Yahoo! rich media technologies.
